LOGAN — Law enforcement have arrested a 43-year-old Logan man and 39-year-old Preston, Idaho woman for allegedly assaulting a family member, leaving him with severe injuries. Kelly G. Olson and Shannon Leigh Karpowich were booked Thursday into the Cache County Jail.

According to an affidavit of probable cause, Logan City Police officers were called to the incident address and met with a 46-year-old man, the alleged victim. He claimed how he had gotten into an argument with his sister, who was playing music loudly in the home’s garage.

The man claimed that when he asked Karpowich to turn down the music, she allegedly punched him in the face. Olson and another unidentified female then reportedly held him down as Shannon continued punching him in the face and groin. As he got back to his feet, he was then shoved over a table, landing on his side.

The alleged victim explained how he is currently recovering from two back surgeries and a broken foot. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment, where it was determined that he sustained three broken ribs and bruises to his groin, according to court paperwork.

Police questioned Karpowich, who reportedly admitted to assaulting the alleged victim and showed no remorse for his injuries. She claimed her brother had been the aggressor and had been choking her by the neck.

Karpowich and Olson made their initial appearance Friday in Logan’s 1st District Court. They were both charged with aggravated assault resulting in serious bodily injury and kidnapping, both second-degree felonies, and ordered to appear again in court Nov. 17.

Individuals arrested and charged in complaints are presumed innocent unless or until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in court.
