LOGAN — A Wellsville woman, Ivonne Arellano, who pleaded guilty to stabbing her husband with a knife was sentenced to jail on Monday. The 35-year-old woman told 1st District Court Judge Kevin Allen, she had no excuse for her behavior.
According to prosecutor Spencer Walsh, in September 2015, Arellano got into an argument with her husband after she found him drinking at a party with their underage son. During the fight, she brandished a knife and slashed the man’s arm.
Court records show two months ago she pleaded guilty to assault and domestic violence in the presence of a child, both class A misdemeanors.
During Monday’s sentencing, defense attorney Shannon Demler told the court that Arellano was under a lot of stress at the time trying to be a mother to the son and their other children. He said there was no question she acted wrongly.
Walsh said he could understand Arellano’s frustration but stabbing the victim in front of their son was not being a good influence either.
Judge Allen sentenced Arellano to serve four-weekends in jail, so she could continue supporting her children. He also sentenced her to perform community service.
