LOGAN — A 44-year-old Wellsville man has pleaded guilty to sexually abusing two girls for years. Steven E. Lambert accepted a plea deal that will send him to prison.

Lambert was in 1st District Court Monday afternoon. He waived his rights to a fair trial and pleaded guilty to three counts of aggravated sexual abuse of a child, a first-degree felony.

Defense attorney Michael McGinnis explained that as part of the agreement prosecutors dropped 13 remaining charges. They will also recommend two of the charges run concurrently and one consecutively, at the time of sentencing.

Lambert was arrested in June 2021 after a woman reported being sexually abused by him while she was a teenager. She told Logan City Police officers how he molested and raped her from the time she was 12-years-old until graduating high school.

As the investigation continued, a second victim came forward, explaining how she was also sexually abused by Lambert when she was 8-years-old. A third victim and other individuals were also interviewed, providing information and corroborating the women’s reports.

The victims were all acquaintances of Lambert, who was considered to be a person of trust. The crimes occurred around 2007 – 2011.

Police later interviewed Lambert as part of their investigation. He admitted to having sexual relations with the first victim, often three times a week.

During Monday’s hearing, Cache County Deputy Attorney Griffin Hazard said Lambert took indecent liberties with the girl.

Judge Angela Fonnesbeck accepted Lambert’s plea agreement after questioning whether or not he understood the mandated prison sentence for the charges. She scheduled sentencing for September 19.

Lambert has been in jail since being arrested, being held without bail. He could face up to life in prison.
