A Utah man and his son who have been buying Idaho lottery tickets together for years say they always knew they’d hit it big someday. Now, they’re going to share a $1 million Powerball jackpot.

Mike Middlemiss of West Valley City and his son, Chris Middlemiss of South Jordan, bought the winning ticket on Chris’ birthday last month at the Kwik Shop in Malad City near the Idaho-Utah line.

“It was my birthday, and my family and I were returning from Lava Hot Springs and we stopped at the brand new Kwik Stop store in Malad to pick up our tickets on the way home,” described Chris about purchasing a ten draw Powerball ticket back in late June.

Chris is a paramedic and his wife is attending school. He says they plan to use their share to pay off some student loans and hope to make a down payment on a new home. His dad says he intends to save for retirement.

“This could not have come at a better time for my family,” added Chris.

“I always thought that someday we’d win big,” said Mike who had the tickets and checked them on Sunday afternoon. “Maybe we’ll win the jackpot with one of the remaining draws on our ticket.”

For their part in selling the winning ticket, Kwik Stop in Malad will receive a bonus from the Idaho Lottery for $20,000.
