OGDEN – The Utah Democratic Party will convene its 2025 State Convention here on Saturday, May 31.
Slated to begin at 11 a.m. at Ogden High School, that gathering will bring together delegates, elected leaders and grassroots organizers for the election of new party officials.
“This convention will serve as a rallying point for Democrats and a strategic planning session for the future,” according to Valerie Stormont, of Blue Print Public Affairs. “Delegates will hear from voices across the state who are organizing for equality, accountability and bold leadership at every level of government.”
The keynote speaker at the Democratic convention will be Gov. Jay Robert Pritzker of Illinois.
A businessman as well as a politician, J.R. Pritzker has been governor of Illinois since 2019. He previously served as the managing partner and co-founder of the Pritzker Group and was also involved in several other business ventures.
Before entering politics, Pritzker was a Democratic Party member and financial supporter for liberal causes.
Pritzker is tentatively scheduled to address the convention at 12:50 p.m.
Throughout the state, Democrats are pinning their hopes on a so-called “blue wave” in the 2026 mid-term elections. That political sea change is expected in reaction to “Make America Great Again” extremism at federal level from the Trump administration and recent maneuvers that Democrats consider unconstitutional by the Republican super-majority in the Utah Legislature.
“Utah faces critical issues,” Stormont emphasizes, “from a climate catastrophe unfolding in plain sight as the Great Salt Lake dries, to extremist politicians trying to auction off our public lands to the highest bidder, to taxpayer dollars wasted on banning flags instead of solving real problems.”
