LOGAN — The Utah State University Board of Trustees recently recognized a student for his exceptional involvement in the USU community, academics and personal growth.
Andrew Hunting, a senior at Utah State University studying economics, data analytics, and mathematics was recognized at a USU Board of Trustees meeting Friday, Jan. 10 with a prestigious award known as a Resolution of Commendation.
“Andrew exemplifies the very best of our Aggie spirit, rooted deeply in the legacy of USU,” said USUSA President Matthew Richey, who presented the award. “A proud fourth-generation Aggie, Andrew has continued a family tradition of excellence at Utah State, enriching the university through his leadership, scholarship, and service.”
The commendation went on to say why Hunting chose to attend USU.
“Andrew chose Utah State for its vibrant campus culture and the unique opportunities it offers for student involvement and personal development.”
The senior is also involved in the USU community and beyond. As the former president of the Interfaith Club, Andrew sought for open dialogue and understanding students from diverse backgrounds. He also used his analytical and persuasive skills on the Debate Team, representing USU at intercollegiate competitions.
Outside of USU he also co-founded the Reading Buddies Club, a program aimed at inspiring a love for reading among local youth, specifically benefiting students at Hillcrest Elementary and Adams Elementary schools.
Hunting will pursue a career in academia and plans to become a professor.
“His passion for knowledge, dedication to service, and commitment to making a difference in others’ lives embody the values we hold dear at Utah State,” President Cantwell’s commendation states. “Andrew’s accomplishments and vision serve as an inspiration to his peers and reflect the strength of USU’s academic and community spirit. With great pride we recognize Andrew as an exemplary representative of Utah State University.”
A commendation by the USU Board of Trustees begins with a recommendation made by the USUSA president. It is then approved as an official resolution by the USU Board of Trustees.
