BOX ELDER COUNTY — Tremonton City officials issued a mandatory precautionary boil water advisory for residents and businesses following recent severe rainfall and localized flooding that impacted a primary water source.
The advisory was announced after heavy storms compromised a local pump station, prompting city crews to take swift action. According to city officials, the affected pump station has been completely taken offline, and the municipal water system has been thoroughly flushed. To ensure public safety, eight bacteriological water samples were collected and sent to a laboratory for formal testing. City leaders are currently awaiting those results before considering lifting the restriction.
Until further notice, community members are strictly advised not to consume tap water without treating it first. To properly purify water for household use, residents should bring water to a rolling boil for at least one minute and allow it to cool completely before consumption. Alternatively, bottled water can be used for all daily needs.
The safety protocols apply to a wide range of everyday activities. Boiled or bottled water must be used for drinking, preparing food, making ice, brushing teeth, and washing dishes. City officials also emphasized that residents should discard any existing ice cubes and replace the water used for household pets.
