NORTH LOGAN — Utah’s fallen military heroes will be honored during the “Heroes Tribute” weekend August 23-25.

 

This three-day event also commemorates the 20-year anniversary of when United States Marine Lance Corporal Michael J. Allred was killed in Iraq on September 6, 2004. Lance Corporal Allred from Hyde Park was Cache Valley’s first combat casualty in the War on Terror. 

 

According to a press release, here is the run down:

Friday, August 23: Scholarship Gala

The weekend begins with a Scholarship Gala on Friday, August 23, from 6-9 p.m. at the Logan Country Club with Representative Blake Moore honoring Utah’s Fallen Military, local Gold Star Families, and recipients of the Lance Corporal Michael J. Allred Scholarship.

Tickets for the Gala are $75 and available by calling the Rocky Mountain Veteran Center at (435) 536-3150.

Saturday, August 24: Ride for the Fallen

The annual Ride for the Fallen motorcycle charity ride is Saturday, August 24. Ride registration and breakfast begin at 8 AM, followed by the Heroes Tribute Program at 9:30 a.m. with “Kick Stands Up” at 10 a.m.

 

Riders will enjoy a scenic, flag-lined route that passes by the Michael Allred home and grave site then around Bear Lake and back.

Sunday, August 25: Patriotic Devotional

The Heroes Tribute weekend concludes with a patriotic devotional Sunday, August 25 at 7 p.m. at Elk Ridge Park in North Logan. Jennie Taylor, Gold Star Widow of Utah Army National Guard Major Brent Taylor, will share a heartfelt message on “Our Pledge to Each Other.”

The evening will also include a special tribute to Utah’s Fallen Military along with musical performances by Green Canyon High School Crescendo and bass vocalist Nathan Christean. Limited chair seating available with plenty of room for lawn chairs and blankets.
