LOGAN – Utah State University’s new Wanlass Center for Art Education and Research will open its doors Tuesday, April 29 at a public celebration at USU. The new $7.6 million cultural facility will provide opportunity for engagement with the Nora Eccles Harrison Museum of Art’s premier collection of modern and contemporary American art.

The public opening from 2-4 p.m. will include remarks by USU interim President Al Smith, former Utah House Representative Dan Johnson, architects John Sparano and Anne Mooney, philanthropist George Wanlass and NEHMA Executive Director Katie Lee-Koven.

Tours of the building will follow at 2:45 p.m.

This 10,000-square-foot facility brings the public closer to art through visible storage, flexible display spaces, and interactive learning environments. The new Wanlass Center is a design statement and it places USU’s NEHMA among the leaders in contemporary museum education. It will transform how art is experienced at USU.

Visitors will be able to use the new facility in a customized way to support curriculum, academic, or personal learning interests. The new center’s facilities such as the Art Study Room and flexible display spaces, emphasize the potential for interactive and personalized art engagement in educational environments.
