LOGAN – Thanks to a proclamation issued by Mayor Holly Daines, Logan officials and residents will observe Arbor Day 2025 on Friday, April 25.
All local residents are invited to formal tree-planting ceremony one day prior to the local Arbor Day on Thursday, April 24 from 3:30 to 4:30 at Merlin Olsen Central Park.
Participants at that event are urged to bring their own shovels and garden gloves to help plant a Bur Oak tree.
Logan City has maintained a coveted designation as a Tree City USA by the National Arbor Day Foundation since 1984, according to the proclamation issued by Daines on April 15.
Arbor Day’s primary purpose is to encourage tree planting and the appreciation of trees and forests. It serves as a day to celebrate the importance of trees for the environment, community and individual well-being. The holiday is marked by tree planting events, educational activities, and community gatherings that promote environmental stewardship.
The proclamation also designed April 25 as Bird Day in Logan.
Daines’ statement cited the ability of trees to cool the streets of Logan and sustain 323 species of birds which are an integral part of food chains, support the pollination of flowers and disperse seeds throughout Cache Valley.
Light refreshments will also be served during the tree-planting event on April 24.
The Merlin Olsen Central Park is located at 300 East Center Street in Logan.
