BRIGHAM CITY, Utah (AP) – Prosecutors in Utah are adding more than a dozen criminal charges to a case against a 43-year-old man accused of what authorities are calling dating violence.

The Standard-Examiner reports that Max Bateman of Thatcher has been charged in recent days with assault, criminal trespass, phone harassment, damaging a communication device and intoxication.

Bateman is dubbed “Mad Max” in court documents that say four new cases were added in Box Elder County Justice Court to a pending assault charge involving the same woman from July 26.

The woman obtained a protective order against Bateman July 30, dropped it in November, and sought a new one after alleged confrontations with Bateman in January.

Deputy County Attorney Blair Wardle says dating violence was added to the state protective order law last May.
