LOGAN – State Rep. Casey Snider (R-Paradise) dominated the Cache County Republican Nominating Convention on April 11, delivering a stemwinder of a speech that captured 153 of 218 ballots cast by District 5 delegates.

Cache GOP chair Natalie Levi announced that margin gave Snider nearly 80 percent of the convention vote, making him Cache County’s selected nominee in the upcoming General Election.

Rival candidate Jim Atkinson’s remarks touched on typical conservative issues — including burdensome taxes, bloated bureaucracy and limited government. But those concerns failed to resonate with the small but partisan crowd that remained near the close of the nearly four-hour convention held at Ridgeline High School in Millville.

“Talk is cheap,” Snider insisted, “but records aren’t … Campaign rhetoric and conspiracies theories aren’t records either.”

The local farmer and firefighter now serves as House Majority Leader in the Legislature. In his remarks, Snider reeled off a long list of promises made and promises kept, including accountability to Cache citizens, $1.4 billion in tax relief in recent years, protecting Cache Valley’s water rights and making the priorities of District 5 residents the Legislature’s priorities.

A self-employed heating and air conditioning contractor from Avon, Atkinson has participated in the GOP caucus system for many years and has been both a State and County Delegate, with the avowed goal of supporting conservative principles and policies in Utah.

Since being appointed to the Legislature in 2018, Snider proudly told the convention attendees that he has never resorted to collecting voter signatures to ensure that his name would appear on GOP primary ballots.

After receiving the nod of the 2026 convention, Snider will advance directly as the Republican Party’s nominee to the General Election, according to Levi, avoiding a primary challenge from within the GOP.
