BOX ELDER COUNTY — Two snowmobilers were safely rescued after falling through the ice on Mantua Reservoir, according to officials.
First responders were dispatched to the lake at approximately 10:40 a.m. Friday, Jan. 19.
Brigham City police said their dispatch center received a 911 call alerting them of the two snowmobilers on the northeast side of the reservoir, near the North Eagle Rise Trailhead.
The police department received assistance from the Box Elder County Sherriff’s Office, Mantua Police Department, Brigham City Fire Department, Mantua Fire Department, and Box Elder Search and Rescue.
On-duty firefighters in proper equipment were ultimately able to safely pull the individuals from the ice and transport them to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The snowmobilers were identified as Todd Hansen of Brigham City and Hunter Trowbridge of Logan.
Due to rescue measures and retrieving property off of the reservoir, officers asked the public to avoid the area.
Officials said the ice is thin on parts of the lake. They advised people to be cautious.
The police department expressed appreciation for the Brigham City Public Works Department, for their fast response and assistance. Without them, emergency crews would not have been able to access the East side of the reservoir as quickly as they did.
