
LOGAN — A 20-year-old Smithfield man has been arrested for allegedly assaulting and attempting to strangle a woman, according to law enforcement. Ethan Hunter Haslam was booked Monday into the Cache County Jail.
According to an arrest affidavit, Cache County Sheriff’s deputies were called to domestic dispute in Hyrum, Oct. 7. The alleged victim claimed Haslam had struck her multiple times and briefly choked her.
Deputies reported the woman had bruises, scratches, and marks consistent with being strangled. A 1-year-old child was present at the time of the assaults.
The alleged victim also reported Haslam took her phone and threw it into a field near a convenience store. She also claimed on one occasion he grabbed a knife and threatened to kill a relative.
According to jail records, Haslam was booked on suspicion of felony aggravated burglary and assault, along with misdemeanors of domestic violence, criminal mischief, sexual battery and theft. He is currently being held, pending arraignment of formal charges in Logan’s 1st District Court.
