SALT LAKE CITY – Cache Valley’s own Sen. Chris Wilson (R-Logan) will be one of the guest speakers at the April meeting of the Elephant Club here.

That event, hosted by the Utah Republican Party, is slated for 12 p.m. on Friday, April 25 at the Alta Club in Salt Lake City.

Wilson will share the speaker’s podium with Sen. Kirk Cullimore (R-North Salt Lake), the majority leader of the Utah Senate.

Now in his second four-year term in the Senate, Wilson passed 7 bills in the Senate during the recently completed 2025 general session of the Utah Legislature. Those proposals covered a wide-range of issues from maintaining the confidentiality of university presidential candidates to improving Utah’s property tax system. He also floor-sponsored and helped pass 11 House bills.

Wilson also holds the dubious distinction of having authored Senate Bill 296 (Judicial Amendments), a law that would have given the Gov. Spencer Cox and the Senate the power to select the chief justice of the Utah Supreme Court, rather than allowing state justices to elect their own chief.

Despite the terms of SB 296 having been negotiated with member of the judiciary, that proposal was one of the seven laws that Cox chose to veto out of more than 500 passed by the Legislature during its recent general session.

A decision as to whether the members of the Legislature will attempt to over-ride that veto is still pending.

Also during the recent general session of the Legislature, Cullimore introduced Senate Joint Resolution 007, a proposal emphasizing federalism and voicing support for an amendment to the U.S. Constitution designed to restore the ability of states to regulate campaign finance laws and protect elections from foreign interference.

Founded in 1987, the Elephant Club function as a fundraising affiliate of the Utah Republican Party.

The Elephant Club hosts monthly luncheons that enable its members to engage with members of Utah’s federal delegation, state lawmakers, current and former governors, as well as other political figures on a regular basis.

The organization also strives to make political engagement more accessible and champions conservative principles.

The Alta Club is located at 100 East South Temple Street in Salt Lake City.
