LOGAN — Cache County Search and Rescue teams were called out to look for two lost skiers near Franklin Basin. The pair were reported missing around 3:45 p.m. Monday.

According to emergency radio traffic, the skiers had gone out of bounds and dropped down the backside of Beaver Mountain into the Peterson Hollow area.

Beaver Mountain Ski Patrol members located the party in a ravine around 4:20 p.m. The lost skiers were “warm, dry and doing okay,” but ski patrol requested Search and Rescue assistance to get the skiers out of the ravine.

The party included a 45-year-old male and a 12-year-old male.

The recue occurred as the avalanche danger is high for the Bear River Range.

Utah Avalanche Forecaster Toby Weed said very heavy snowfall and drifting by strong winds overloaded slopes with pre-existing weak snow. Large and dangerous natural and human-triggered avalanches are likely, especially on northerly-facing slopes at mid and upper-elevations.

Officials advice very dangerous avalanche conditions exist, and people should avoid being on or beneath drifted slopes steeper than 30°.
