April 13, 1930 — March 24, 2024 (age 93)

Ruth Ann Mitton Lewis, 93, Providence, Utah died peacefully Sunday March 24, 2024 in North Logan, Utah.

She was born April 13, 1930, at her grandparents home in Logan, Utah, to Laurence R. and Jessie Cressall Mitton. She was raised in Whitney, Idaho and attended Whitney Elementary School and graduated from Preston High School. Ruth Ann won many blue ribbons in 4-H on the County, State, and Regional competitions with her sewing in those years. She went on to graduate from Utah State University with a B.S. degree and a Master’s Degree in Education.

Ruth Ann married Wendell E. Lewis in the Logan Temple, February 23, 1951.  They lived in Logan until 1969 when they moved to Las Vegas, Nevada. They returned to the Cache Valley and retired in Providence, Utah in 2006.

She was a worker from her High School days, first at J.C. Penney’s in Preston and also in Augusta, Georgia, while her husband was in the U.S. Army. Many of her favorite years were working at S.E. Needham Jewelers in Logan.  Ruth Ann was the first ever Kindergarten teacher in the Cache County School District starting at Richmond Elementary in 1962.  She also taught at Hyde Park and North Park Schools.  She went on to teach in Las Vegas for 24 years.

Ruth Ann was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints serving in many teaching and leadership positions. She was a member of the Spurs while at U.S.U., belonged to the Logan Business and Professional Women, University Women in Las Vegas, Daughters of the Utah Pioneers, Elizabeth Mathews Camp, the Cache County Historical Society, as well as the Providence Women’s Literary Club.

Her hobbies were walking and exercise, reading, writing family histories, various kinds of handiwork, Aggie games amd going to McDonald’s.

Ruth Ann is survived by sons, Alan (Teresa) Lewis, Logan, and Clair (Suzan) Lewis, St. George, UT, five grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren, and brothers Boyd Mitton, Farmington, UT and Scott (Phyllis) Mitton of Tremonton, UT.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Wendell, and a granddaughter Andrea Lewis.

The family would like to thank special friends Hal and Linda Hansen, caregiver Arlene Robbins, and employees of Primrose Hospice.

The funeral services will be Thursday morning, March 28 at White Pine Funeral Home, 753 South 100 East, Logan.

The viewing for family and friends will be from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., and the Funeral beginning at 11 a.m.
