March 16, 1928 — February 24, 2024 (age 95)
Ruth Aletha (Batt) Hansen passed peacefully into the arms of her sweetheart on February 24, 2024, at the age of 95 at The Gables in North Logan, Utah.
She was born on March 16, 1928, in Logan to Lawrence Batt and Sarah Aletha (King) Batt, the second of four children. Her father was the head dairy herdsman for the college, and as a child she loved animals, climbing and swinging from trees, playing house, dressing up, babysitting, and riding her bike on the college hill. She attended Adams Elementary, Logan Junior High, and South Cache High School.
Ruth married Wendell Marlin Hansen on April 25, 1946, in the Logan Temple. She was his devoted companion for 38 years, until Wendell passed away on August 13, 1984, at the age of 56.
Ruth and Wendell were the love of each other’s lives. In high school, Wendell played his trumpet in the Dansante Orchestra. It was there that Wendell saw Ruth and knew she would be his future wife. Ruth said it was fun dating Wendell in high school since he owned his own car, a Model A Ford. He later sold it to buy her wedding ring. Wendell was drafted into the army, and three days after they were married, Wendell left for San Francisco where he was stationed to play in the army band for six months.
Ruth and Wendell spent most of their married lives in Smithfield, North Logan, and Logan, where Wendell was a painting contractor and Ruth enjoyed being at home with their children. Despite being told by a doctor not to have any children due to a heart condition, Ruth and Wendell were blessed with six beautiful children, including a set of twins. She loved being a homemaker and mother more than anything. She always kept a beautiful clean home, was an excellent cook, and showered her family with understanding, love, and kindness. Most importantly, she taught her children the gospel principles that were so dear to her heart. Ruth had unwavering faith in the gospel and a firm testimony and love for our Savior, Jesus Christ. She was active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints all her life and gladly served in many positions.
In later years, Ruth and Wendell enjoyed designing, building, decorating, and living in five beautiful homes on the Logan east bench. Ruth had a talent for decorating homes and was asked to participate in home shows because of her expertise. She also enjoyed spending time with Wendell as store owners of the National Color Center, which sold carpet, drapery, and paint.
After Wendell’s passing, Ruth continued to live in Logan where she was loved and surrounded by family. She enjoyed attending the temple, traveling with family, and spending time with her loved ones. She loved, served, and blessed her family in every way.
Ruth is survived by a great posterity of six children, Geary (Shirley) Hansen, LaCree (Les) Nelson, Kathryn Wixom, Diane (Ken) Stoddard, and twins Lynnette (Kurt) Rieben and Lynn (Julie) Hansen, as well as 25 grandchildren, 53 great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother and sister-in-law Larry (Helen) Batt, and sister-in-law Lorraine Hansen.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Wendell, grandson Danny Nelson, two sisters and brothers-in-law LaPreal (Dale) Kohler and Marilyn (Glade) Bair, sister-in-law and brother-in-law Colleen (Richard) Jenson, and brother-in-law Blaine Hansen.
Our family expresses gratitude to the many wonderful aides and nursing staff of Legacy House of Logan and The Gables of North Logan where Ruth lived out her final years. She was blessed to be treated with such loving care and compassion. We have comfort in her passing and feel she is now enjoying a great reunion with her beloved husband, Wendell, and other loved ones who have gone before.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 2, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at the Allen Hall Mortuary of Logan.
Family will receive guests for a viewing an hour prior to the service.
