LOGAN — A 36-year-old Richmond man was arrested on felony kidnapping and assault charges stemming from multiple domestic violence incidents, including allegations of severe strangulation, according to court documents. Anthony Morgan Jones was booked into the Cache County Jail on Tuesday.
Jones made his initial appearance Wednesday in Logan’s 1st District Court, appearing by web conference from jail. He was charged with first-degree felony aggravated kidnapping, second-degree felony aggravated assault producing loss of consciousness, third-degree felony aggravated assault, and class A misdemeanor assault with substantial bodily injury.
The arrest follows an investigation that began after Cache County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a domestic dispute in Richmond, on Aug. 24. While the Cache County Attorney’s Office was reviewing the initial case, investigators uncovered additional prior incidents of domestic violence.
During an interview Feb. 24, the alleged victim detailed a July 21 altercation that started over work and finances. When the woman attempted to pack her belongings to leave, Jones allegedly trapped her in a closet, threw her phone out of the room, and shoved her to the ground, telling her she was not going anywhere.
According to the probable cause affidavit, Jones straddled the victim and strangled her until she saw stars and her vision turned black. The alleged victim told police Jones temporarily stopped when she told him her child needed a mother, but he subsequently forced her down and began strangling her a second time. The assault reportedly ended only after Jones heard a “pop” from the victim’s neck, after which she began coughing up blood.
The victim also disclosed an earlier assault that occurred on Nov. 6, 2024, when she tried to leave the residence following an argument. After the victim attempted to exit the front door, Jones wrestled her to the ground. As she tried to push him off and kicked him, Jones allegedly slammed her into the floor, grabbed her by the hair, and punched her in the face and head multiple times. The affidavit notes the beating caused a large contusion and temporary disfigurement, and ended only when a relative entered the room and separated them.
During Wednesday’s court appearance, Cache County Deputy Attorney Aaron Jossie asked the court to hold Jones without bail due to the severity of the allegations. He asked the court to also order the suspect to have no contact with the alleged victim.
Jones was ordered to abide a protective order and remain in jail. He’ll appear again in court April 8.
Individuals arrested and charged in complaints are presumed innocent unless or until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in court.
