LOGAN — A 28-year-old Richmond man has been arrested for allegedly driving to Logan to try and have sex with an individual who was posing as a 15-year-old girl. Alexander J. Chesley was booked into the Cache County Jail Friday afternoon, after reportedly telling police that he was attracted to minors.
According to an arrest affidavit, the Logan City Police Department received a report in February from a citizen, who had been posing as the teenage girl and locating local individuals who tried to entice or lure them. The citizen reported that a male individual, later identified as Chesley, had allegedly communicated with them over the internet and arranged to meet to have sex. The suspect had also sent the individual an inappropriate photo of themselves.
The citizen told officers, they had waited to meet at the arranged location and confronted Chesley when he arrived. The interaction was filmed by the citizen and provided to investigators.
Using facial recognition software, officers were able to identify Chesley from the video. They questioned him at the police department.
The affidavit stated that Chesley admitted to officers that he had been chatting and arranging to meet with someone he thought was a 15-year-old female. He also allegedly disclosed to being attracted to girls between 15 and 16-years-old and searching for child pornography on the internet.
Police obtained a warrant to search Chesley’s phone. On it, they located 10 images of child pornography. The victims were estimated to be between 7 and 13-years-old.
Jail records show, Chesley was booked on 10 counts of sexual exploitation of a minor and one count of enticing a minor by internet or text. He is currently being held without bail and will likely be arraigned on formal charges in 1st District Court Monday afternoon.
Individuals arrested and charged in complaints are presumed innocent unless or until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in court.
