GARDEN CITY – The reprise of The Play that Goes Wrong at the Pickleville Playhouse here will feature a cast of returning veterans of the 2023 production and some talented newcomers.

The fall production – slated for Friday, Sept. 20 to Saturday, Oct. 19 at the rustic playhouse – will be the second time out for the talented Davis clan staging the comic disaster.

The Play that Goes Wrong has everything you’d expect from a Pickleville Playhouse production except the usual singing and dancing. But the packed-house audiences that were left practically parallelized with laughter by this show last fall didn’t seem to miss the music.

Under the director of Derek Davis, the returning cast will be led by the husband and wife performing team of Nathan Kremin and Kenzie Davis Kremin.

For anyone who missed the 2023 production of The Play that Goes Wrong – shame on you! –the comedic farce was penned by Henry Lewis, Jonathan Sayer and Henry Shields. Employing the treasured theater gimmick of a play within a play, the plot of the comedy centers on a production of the Murder at Haversham Manor by the fictional Cornley Polytechnic Drama Society that fails disastrously and hilariously.

Nathan Kremin will be returning to the role of the narrator/director of the play within a play, who gradually tends to lose his mind as things go from bad to worse.

Kenzie Davis Kremin will reprise the role of backstage technician Annie, who refuses to return to the shadows after being bitten bad by the spotlight bug. Ms. Kremin is best known for her delightful performances as Wednesday in consecutive Pickleville productions of The Addams Family from 2020 to 2022.

Also returning as the butler of Haversham Manor will be the always watchable Jordan Todd Brown, in what seems like this millionth season at the Pickleville Playhouse. The diminutive Brown is an improv genius, which makes him perfect for this high-energy, rapid-fire production.

Pickleville veteran Jaycee Harris is also back playing the flashy Florence, who just might be everyone’s best girl, if you know what I mean.

Except, that is, Taylor Seth Hall, another Pickleville alumnus who plays Florence’s over-protective brother. In one of the play’s most memorable scenes, Hall nearly ties himself in knots catching falling props and scenery.

Another exception to Florance’s dance card might be Max, played by returnee Griffin Welti, for good reasons that we won’t go into. It’s a family website, y’know.

Rounding out the cast are newcomers Kyle Hendericks and Mateen Kane.

Evening performances of The Play that Goes Wrong are slated for Sept. 20, 21, 27 and 28 as well as Oct. 4, 5, 10, 11, 12, 18 and 19.

The comedy will also be staged multiple times in the afternoons of Sept. 21 and 28, plus Oct. 5, 11, 12 and 19.

The Pickleville Playhouse is located at 2049 Bear Lake Blvd, in Garden City.
