Rebecca Ann Fetters Olson, 77, passed away peacefully on February 7, 2024, after a long and brave battle with multiple health issues.

Beckie was born on September 2, 1946, in Lynwood, California, to John and Mildred Link Fetters. Together with her loving parents and siblings, she grew up in Southern California where she graduated from La Mirada High School.

Beckie married her sweetheart, Jim Olson, on September 11, 1964, in La Mirada, California, and she was later sealed to him for time and all eternity in the Los Angeles Temple on June 7, 1980. Shortly after they were married, Beckie joined Jim in the Philippine Islands, where he was serving in the Army during the Vietnam War, and where Rob was born.

Beckie and Jim returned to Richmond, California, where Heidi, Erik, and Gretchen were born. Beckie started and operated a neighborhood school named New Horizons while Jim was in graduate school. Beckie and Jim later moved their young family to Kentucky, where Beckie mastered countless skills of rural life on a farm and Jim took a job at the University of Kentucky. As Jim struggled with health issues, Beckie turned her talent for quilting into a business to help support the family. She opened a quilt shop called Quilter’s Square and developed a simplified method for piecing quilts which she published in a book titled Quilts by the Slice. She taught classes around the world and loved sharing her love of quilting with friends and family. Over the years, Beckie has gifted many hundreds of quilts to others. She was constantly in the midst of several projects at once. She liked the saying “I am a Quilter. My house is in pieces.”

While settling into homes in Paradise and later Murray, Beckie was generous and kind to everyone she met. She sacrificed for her family and friends. She willingly gave away what little she had. She set an example of faith and courage for everyone she knew, and she was always willing to share with others her enduring testimony of Jesus Christ as her Savior.

Beckie is preceded in death by her husband Jim, and siblings Bethine, Barbara, and John.

She is survived by her son, Rob (Liz) and their children, Hannah and Madeleine, of Rome, Georgia; her daughter, Heidi of Salt Lake City, Utah; her son, Erik (Katie) and their children, Maggie, Jacob (Larissa), Thomas, Richard, and Audrey, of Salt Lake City, Utah; her daughter, Gretchen (John) and their children, Scott, Julia, Nora, and Jack, of Lithia, Florida; her sisters Beverly Schiefer of Paradise, Utah and Mary Johnson of Chaska, Minnesota; her brothers Joseph Fetters of Alpine, Utah, and Nick Brown of Redlands, California; and numerous other relatives.

The family would like to express special thanks and appreciation to the doctors, nurses and aides of St. Joseph Villa and many kind friends and neighbors both in Paradise and Murray, for their compassionate care and concern for Beckie.

The funeral will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, February 24, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints located at 5235 South Wesley Rd, Murray, Utah, 84117.

Graveside services will be held at the Paradise Town Cemetery at 2:00 pm that same day.

Cannon Mortuary is handling the arrangements.
