LOGAN — A 32-year-old Providence man has been ordered to serve two years in the Cache County Jail for possessing hundreds of photos and videos of child sexual abuse material on an internet account registered in his name. Casey Daniel Hoggan gave no excuse or apology for his actions before receiving the extra long jail term.
Hoggan was sentenced June 2 in Logan’s 1st District Court. He previously accepted a plea deal, pleading guilty to two counts of aggravated sexual exploitation of a minor, a first-degree felony; and three counts of sexual exploitation of a minor, a second-degree felony.
In July 2022, Logan City Police officers received a cyber-tip, reporting an individual in the area was uploading child pornography to a Google Drive account. The account was tracked to a Providence residence.
Police served a warrant to Google, requesting the contents of the Drive account. They received 241 images and 34 videos of child pornography. Some of the files contained children as young as 3-years old being raped and sodomized.
Officers arrested Hoggan and booked him into the Cache County Jail temporarily. During questioning, he admitted to viewing, downloading and sharing child pornography with other users. He also stated “he liked to envision he was a male child,” the arrest affidavit reported.
During Monday’s sentencing, defense attorney Darwin Overson said his client was on the Autism spectrum and struggled in society. He emphasized though the defendant had no previous criminal history.
Judge Spencer Walsh said he was disgusted with the type of material Hoggan had been viewing. He ordered the Providence man to serve two years in jail, followed by four years of probation. He also placed the defendant on the sex-offender registry.
