LOGAN — A 19-year-old Providence man has been arrested for allegedly downloading child pornography. Samuel James Dayton was booked temporarily Wednesday, May 8, into the Cache County Jail.
According to court documents, Dayton is being charged with nine counts of sexual exploitation of a minor, a second-degree felony. The offences occurred around Dec. 26, 2023.
Dayton is scheduled to be arraigned in Logan’s 1st District Court on June 24. Each charge carries a maximum prison sentence of 15 years and $10,000 fine.
The charges were filed by the Cache County Attorney’s Office following an investigation by the Cache County Sheriff’s Office.
According to jail records, Dayton was booked and later released from jail, pending his upcoming appearance before a judge next month.
Individuals arrested and charged in complaints are presumed innocent unless or until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in court.
