FRANKLIN, Idaho — A 23-year-old Preston woman died in a multi-vehicle crash Thursday afternoon. The accident occurred at 1:25 p.m., on US-91 at Legacy Drive, in Franklin.

According to Idaho State Police, a Mazda Tribute, driven by a 77-year-old man from Logan, was northbound on US-91. The driver reportedly stopped in the roadway and began reversing in the lane toward the intersection.

Police report that at the same time, a Dodge Ram, driven by a 32-year-old man from Franklin, was southbound on US-91 and was turning left onto Legacy Drive. During the turn, the Dodge truck stopped in the northbound lanes to avoid colliding with the reversing Mazda.

Another Dodge Ram, driven by a 20-year-old man from Franklin, was traveling northbound on US-91. The driver, in an attempt to avoid a collision, swerved into the southbound lanes but still hit the other Dodge truck.

Police said the truck then continued into the turn lane where it collided head-on with a Jeep Renegade that was travelling southbound. The SUV was being driven by the 23-year-old woman from Preston.

The woman was wearing a seatbelt but succumbed to her injuries at the scene. Her identity has not been released, pending notification of family.

Police report the southbound lanes of US-91 were blocked for over 4 hours to allow emergency responders to assist those involved and clear the scene.
