PRESTON–The Preston Area Chamber of Commerce and other participating organizations are holding a 20th anniversary celebrating Napoleon Dynamite being filmed in their city.

The cult classic movie has brought thousands of visitors from all over the world.

The festival will be held on July 26 and 27 and will offer a unique blend of contests, nostalgia, and utter awesomeness.

Stevie Emerson the Vice President & Marketing arm of the Preston Area Chamber of Commerce said they are offering self-guided tours and school bus tours to some of the sites made famous by the movie. They are even going to hold a costume contest and a moon boot dance masterclass.

“We are planning to have a tater tot eating competition, a tetherball tournament, a liger drawing contest, boondoggle kits and more,” she said. “We are also offering self-guided or school bus tours to filming locations.”

Attendees can participate in a Napoleon Dynamite trivia challenge, learn to make their own lip balm, take group dance lessons, visit a Rex Dojo class or even learn how to bowl at Pop-N-Pin Lanes.

“Some of our local businesses will give away items and some of the businesses will be selling things,” Emerson said. ”We have invited some of the locals who appeared in the movie to be there.”

The committee is still trying to see if they can get some of the original actors to be a part of the festival.

Logan had a Napoleon Dynamite 20th anniversary party in May,” she said. “They invited us, but it was to early for us to participate.”

“People are here are really excited,” Emerson said. “We have the support of Cache Visitors Bureau, Beer River Association of Governments, The Preston Area Chamber of Commerce, Cache Arts and others.”

Some of the events sponsors are hoping people will make reservations in advance.
