LOGAN — A 19-year-old Preston, Idaho, man died Thursday night in a motorcycle accident in Blacksmith Fork Canyon. The crash was reported just before 11 p.m. on SR-101.
The Utah Department of Public Safety reported the motorcyclist was on a black Kawasaki, travelling westbound. Near milepost 10, where the roadway curved to the right, the rider failed to negotiate the curve and ran off the left side of the road, plunging approximately 12 feet into the Blacksmith Fork River.
The bike ran off the road near the river bridge, landing in some brush on the other side of the river, before coming to a stop in the water.
Despite wearing a helmet, the driver died at the scene. His identity has not yet been released, pending notification of family.
Troopers are looking into speed as a possible factor in the fatal crash.
