LOGAN – During her Monday morning State of the University address, Utah State University President Noelle Cockett praised USU’s perseverance and accomplishments during the COVID pandemic.

She said in the era of COVID-19 USU has done very well with online education, because the school was prepared for it.

“We’ve had online for 26 years, and it is high quality,” Pres. Cockett said. “Many institutions went into online education during the COVID pandemic. They had to, as we were told to move to more virtual education opportunities for our students.

“But USU had the experience to make it outstanding, even during that quick pivot into virtual mode of instruction.”

She said during COVID USU had 24,000 students take at least one online class.

Dr. Cockett also highlighted the recent announcement of a 10-year, one billion dollar contract from the Air Force Research Laboratory to the USU Space Dynamics Lab. She said the Air Force has begun filling the contract with projects for SDL.

“They will continue to grow,” she exclaimed. “There are over a thousand employees with more than 900 located right here in Cache Valley, right up the street and we know that this will continue to expand their facilities here on the Innovation Campus and we want to continue our partnerships with them.”

She also identified 2021 as a record funding year with USU receiving more than $100 million in private donations from more than 7,300 donors, a one-year record.
