SALT LAKE CITY — President Jeffrey R. Holland, acting president of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, has been hospitalized for treatment of “ongoing health complications,” church officials announced Wednesday.

The announcement, released on Christmas Eve, did not specify when Holland was admitted or provide specific details regarding his condition. Holland, 85, was officially sustained as the acting president of the Quorum earlier this year and has faced several health challenges in recent years.

“He is receiving expert care and is with loved ones during this Christmas holiday,” church leaders said in a statement.

Officials noted that Holland and his family expressed gratitude for the prayers offered by church members. The family also “extend greetings of faith and peace during this season that commemorates the birth of our Savior Jesus Christ.”

Holland’s hospitalization follows a period of reduced public appearances as he has managed recurring health issues. As the second-highest presiding body in the government of the church, the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles oversees the global operations of the faith.
