LOGAN — Logan City Police arrested 2 men early Friday morning in connection with a marijuana growing operation. Logan Assistant Police Chief, Jeff Curtis said an officer responded to a burglary call near 100 East 300 North in Logan around 2:30 a.m. After investigating, the officer noticed the smell of marijuana, coming from the window fan of another apartment.
According to Curtis, other officers were called to the apartment complex. They also noticed the same odor. A search warrant was obtained so that officers could enter the residence.
Once inside the apartment, police found 51 marijuana plants in one of the rooms. The plants were in different stages of growth. Officers said they also found cultivation devices, used to grow the plants and storage containers with dried marijuana in them.
The renter of the apartment, 23-year-old Dante F. Salvati was booked into the Cache County Jail on charges of growing marijuana, a 2nd degree felony and possession of cultivation equipment, a class A misdemeanor. Both charges were enhanced due to being within 1000 feet of a church, that is across the street from the apartment complex.
Police also arrested 27-year-old Martin A. Brown, who was also in the apartment when officers served the warrant. He told officers he was visiting at the time. Brown was booked into the Cache County Jail for possession of marijuana by consumption, a class A misdemeanor.
