LOGAN — A 32-year-old North Logan man was arrested this week and charged with physically abusing his two young children.

North Park Police Chief Kim Hawkes said detectives began investigating Jaime A. Espinoza, after his eight-year-old child reported being physically abused by him. The victim disclosed that the abuse occurred at their North Logan home near 1580 North 200 East. The victim claimed a two-month old baby was also abused.

Agents with Child and Family Services (DCFS) were contacted about the allegations and later notified law enforcement.

The abuse appeared to have happened during the last couple weeks and detectives are now trying to determine what could have instigated it. “We are not sure why it just started,” said Hawkes.

Espinoza was arrested Wednesday afternoon and booked into the Cache County Jail. He is being held on a $20,000 bond. The Cache County Attorney’s Office later filed charges against him in 1st District Court. He is being charged with one count of child abuse, as second-degree felony, and three misdemeanors accounts of child abuse, assault and domestic violence in the presence of a child. He is scheduled to make an initial appearance before a judge on Tuesday.
