JEROME COUNTY, Idaho — A 65-year-old Pocatello man died Tuesday after experiencing a medical incident and crashing on Interstate 84 in Jerome County.

Idaho State Police reported the crash happened around 11:50 a.m. Sept. 8 near milepost 196.5. The driver was traveling westbound in a Toyota Avalon when he suffered an unknown medical event, causing the vehicle to veer off the left shoulder, swerve back across the roadway and go off the right shoulder.

The car traveled down an embankment and struck an Idaho Transportation Department fence before coming to rest.

First responders transported the driver, who was wearing a seat belt, to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

The man’s identity has not been released, pending notification of family.

The crash remains under investigation by state police. The Jerome County Sheriff’s Office, Jerome Rural Fire and Magic Valley Paramedics assisted at the scene.
