BOX ELDER COUNTY, Utah — A 44-year-old pilot died Tuesday night after his single-engine aircraft crashed in Box Elder County, authorities said.
Officials with the Box Elder County Sheriff’s Office and the Utah Department of Public Safety located the wreckage on Wednesday, June 23. The pilot, whose identity is being withheld pending notification of family, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Federal Aviation Administration identified the aircraft as a Cessna Skyhawk 172S, a fixed-wing, single-engine plane. Flight records indicate the aircraft was registered to CSA Aircraft Leasing LLC, based in Salt Lake City.
The plane took off from Salt Lake City International Airport at 10:25 p.m. Tuesday and was last tracked in the air near Ogden before crashing.
The National Transportation Safety Board is leading the investigation into the cause of the crash.
