LOGAN — A off-duty police officer was injured and hospitalized after a motorcycle accident Sunday night.
Logan City Police Captain Curtis Hooley said Officer Eric Johnson was flown to Intermountain Medical Center (IMC) in Murray after the two vehicle accident, south of Utah State University. He is being treated for a severe head injury.
Utah Highway Patrol troopers were called to investigate the accident at 6:45 p.m. Lt. Lee Perry said Johnson was westbound on US-89 in the inside lane. At 1200 East a van, attempting to turn left, pulled out in front of him.
Johnson’s motorcycle struck the driver’s side door of the van.
Perry said Johnson was not wearing a helmet. He was transported by ambulance to Logan Regional Hospital and later airlifted to IMC. The driver of the van was uninjured. Speed or alcohol did not appear to be a factor in the accident. An investigation is ongoing.
Hooley said the thoughts and prayers of everyone at the Logan City Police Department are with Johnson and his family.
