LOGAN — A suspect has been taken into custody for questioning after a bomb threat was made about the North Logan Walmart. The incident resulted in the store remaining closed for several hours Sunday morning, as police investigated.

North Park Police Chief Kent Goodrich said agents with the FBI’s National Threat Operations Center received an online tip that there would be a bomb at the North Logan Walmart, located at 1550 North Main. The threat was uncovered at 1:13 a.m. Sunday morning, while the store was closed for business.

“Because of that threat,” explained Goodrich, “police contacted the Walmart management team, who evacuated their employees and then remained closed to the public for several hours Sunday morning, while we finished the investigation.”

Detectives were able to track the threat to an IP address and take a person of interest into custody. They reportedly have no connection with the store.

Goodrich expressed appreciation to the store management and employees for their cooperation.

“The store was searched and there was no threat found to the public,” said Goodrich. “The store is again open for business.”

The suspect’s identity has not been released, pending the outcome of police’s investigation.

Goodrich said the store remained closed out of an abundance of caution until 10:30 a.m. when it was determined the threat was a hoax. There was no injuries reported or damage to the store.

“We are aware of what happened at the North Logan store,” a Walmart spokesperson confirmed in a written statement to Cache Valley Daily on Sunday afternoon. “A threat was made that resulted in the store being closed from approximately 3 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. After police investigated, the threat was determined to be a false alarm.”

Walmart’s typical Sunday operating hours are 6 a.m. to 11 p.m.
