LOGAN — A 36-year-old North Logan man has been sentenced to 24 months’ probation for sexually abusing a woman last fall. Rogelio Moreno-Sanchez was booked into the Cache County Jail in January after an arrest warrant was issued by a judge.
According to court records, Moreno-Sanchez appeared Feb. 10 in Logan’s 1st District Court. He waived his rights to a preliminary hearing and fair trial, pleading guilty to forcible sexual abuse, a second-degree felony; and domestic violence in the presence of a child, a class A misdemeanor. As part of the plea deal, prosecutors dismissed 9 remaining charges.
Prosecutors report, North Park Police officers began investigating Moreno-Sanchez after the victim contacted them September 18. She explained how the defendant, who she was in a relationship with, had sexually assaulted her the night before.
Officers transported the woman to the Cache Valley Hospital for evaluation. She said Moreno-Sanchez had raped her, slapping and hitting her as she repeatedly told him to stop.
During Moreno-Sanchez’s court appearance, Judge Angela Fonnesbeck sentenced the defendant to the time already served, followed by two years’ probation. She also prohibited him from consuming alcohol or drugs, and be placed on the sex-offender registry.
