LOGAN — A 33-year-old North Logan man has admitted to multiple counts of domestic violence, reportedly occurring over the past eight years. George Arthur Neel waived his right to a fair trial and accepted a plea deal.
According to court records, Neel appeared Monday, July 29, in Logan’s 1st District Court. He pleaded guilty to aggravated assault and aggravated child abuse, both second-degree felonies; domestic violence in the presence of a child, aggravated kidnapping, and stalking, all third-degree felonies. As part of the plea agreement, 19 remaining charges with dismissed without prejudice.
According to prosecutors, the victim contacted officers with the North Park Police Department, reporting multiple incidents of domestic violence and child abuse, suffering substantial emotional distress and fear for their safety. She described episodes of strangulation, pushing, hitting, various threats, violent confrontations, manipulation, and emotional abuse.
The woman provided photographs taken from one of the most recent occurrences, showing bruising on her face. She also gave detectives a recorded phone call, where the defendant allegedly admitted to being physically violent at least eight times.
Police interviewed Neel as part of their investigation. During questioning he claimed that he couldn’t remember what happened, saying he had an issue with long term memory and difficulty remembering things. He also admitted to using medical marijuana on a regular basis and believed that had contributed to his memory loss.
Neel remains in jail, being held without bail. He is scheduled to be sentenced Aug. 9 and could face more than 15 years in prison.
