NORTH LOGAN – A glass artist here has been named a 2024 fellow by the Utah Division of Arts and Museums.

Dana Worley is the owner of a glass art studio in North Logan and the author of the jestersbaubles.blogspot, a resource on fused glass techniques for industry-specific magazines. She is one of 15 Utah artists named as 2024 fellows of Utah Division of Arts and Museums in the categories of design arts, performance arts and visual arts.

“I began working with stained glass in the early 1990s,” Worley explains, “and discovered fused glass in 2009.

“While I am creative, I am also very analytical. Fused glass – that is glass fired in a kiln  — is a perfect blend of scientific process and creative expression.”

The artist’s fellowship not only recognizes an individual’s creativity, but also gives consideration to that person’s influence in the broader arts community.

In that later regard, Worley casts a big shadow in northern Utah.

Worley was a founding member of the Artist’s Gallery in downtown Logan and served as that organization’s first vice-chair and later chair.

She is a member of the Glass Art Guild of Utah, where Worley has held the positions of chair for education and web design.

Along with other local artists, Worley helped organize the Cache Studio Art Tour, which is held twice annually and is now in its third year.

She also shares her creativity by teaching, including instruction to residents of Terrace Grove Assisted Living through the state’s Creative Aging program.

In recent years, art has become a full-time job for Worley.

“In August 2023,” she says, “I left my ‘day job’ as a technical support manager for a scientific instrumentation company so I could focus on my art and other passions. “

Now in its 124th year, the Utah Division of Arts and Museums was founded to support creative individuals like Worley and arts organization across the state in an effort to enhance Utahns’ quality of life through the arts and cultural opportunities.

Through their fellowships, they seek to support professional and committed individual artists reaching pivotal moments in their creative processes while encouraging their career achievement and growth.

In addition to Worley, the 2024 Utah Artist Fellowship recipients included Steven Chodoriwsky, Austin Namba, Riley Ridd, Arika Schockmel and Leah Wulfman for design arts; Halie Bahr, Bryan Boyer, Yasmin Fairley, Jyothsna Sainath and Shelby Taylor for performing arts/dance; and Alexandra Fuller, Meagan Gates, Byron Ramos and Holly Rios for visual arts.

When not working in her North Logan studio, Worley says she can be found doing yoga, hiking, biking, cross-country skiing, traveling and taking photographs.
