LOGAN — A 29-year-old Nibley man arrested earlier this month, is facing 20 counts of sexual abuse as prosecutors consider enhancing the charges because of the severity of the alleged crimes.

Juan R. Delatorre was arrested May 4 accused of sexually abusing a young girl. He was later charged with 10 counts of forcible sodomy and 10 counts of object rape, all first-degree felonies and carrying a maximum penalty of life in prison.

State attorney Barbara Lachmar said Delatorre was a person of trust with the victim and reportedly abused her multiple times. Because of the evidence, prosecutors are considering amplifying the charges.

Delatorre has already made his first appearance in court, being assigned a public defender. He is scheduled to appear again May 21. He remains in the Cache County Jail on a $740,000 bond.
