LOGAN – The musical heart and soul of New Orleans is coming to Logan on Wednesday, Feb. 12.

The New Orleans Songbook show will be performed that evening at the Ellen Eccles Theatre, bringing the spirit of Mardi Gras and celebrating the famous composers that made New Orleans the historic epicenter of the American invention of jazz.

The show is a touring production of the New York’s renowned “Jazz at the Lincoln Center” program, which has been a leading advocate for jazz, culture and arts education globally for more than three decades.

Under the Lincoln Center aegis, the organization’s touring initiative has brought the art of jazz from the heart of New York City to more than 446 cities in more than 40 counties since the early 1990s.

In February of last year, “Jazz at the Lincoln Center” performed for a near capacity crowd at the Eccles Theatre, in a show entitled “Songs We Love.”

The vocalists and musicians of the New Orleans Songbook will explore the history of jazz, tracing its evolution from the early compositions of Jelly Roll Morton and Louis Armstrong to the modern styles of Ellis Marsalis and James Black.

Led by pianist Luther Allison and dynamic vocalists Quiana Lynell and Milton Suggs, the New Orleans Songbook is certain to satisfy the Lincoln Center’s mission of “entertaining, enriching and expanding” a global community for jazz.

The vocalists will be accompanied by a six-piece orchestra, including Allison on piano, Liany Mateo on upright bass, Marcus Grant on drums, Brandon Woody on trumpet, Mariel Bildsten on trombone and Markus Howell on saxophone.

Good tickets are still available for the jazz show and can be purchased at https://www.cachearts.org/shows

The New Orleans Songbook will be performed at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 12.

The Ellen Eccles Theatre is located at 43 South Main Street in downtown Logan.
