DEWEYVILLE, Utah — A mother and her two children escaped serious injury Saturday after their vehicle was involved in a collision with a train in Box Elder County.

The Tremonton Fire Department and Central Box Elder Fire District responded to the train-versus-vehicle crash on Main Street in Deweyville at approximately 5:30 p.m. Upon arrival, emergency crews found that the mother and her two children had already safely exited the vehicle.

Fire officials credited the occupants’ lack of serious injuries to the fact that all three were properly restrained with seatbelts at the time of the collision.

The exact circumstances leading up to the crash remain under active investigation. Tremonton Fire officials extended their gratitude to the Utah Highway Patrol, the Box Elder County Sheriff’s Office and local emergency dispatchers for their rapid and coordinated response to the incident.
