LOGAN — Two bodies discovered Monday morning along Valley View Highway, SR-30, have been identified as a married couple who were reported missing over the weekend.
Officials with the Logan City Police Department confirmed Monday afternoon that the bodies are those of Garrett Dutcher, 41, and his wife, Meredith Dutcher, 42.
The discovery concludes a short, intense search that began Sunday when family members contacted authorities. According to investigators, the couple was reported missing after relatives discovered a typed note at the Dutchers’ residence. Police described the contents of the message as “concerning.”
The note reportedly contained specific instructions regarding what family members should do with the couple’s vehicle and personal property, leading investigators to believe the departure was planned.
“It is believed that the Dutchers may have left their residence on foot,” the Logan Police Department said in a statement issued during the initial search.
Throughout Sunday, officers canvassed the couple’s home and the surrounding neighborhoods but were unable to locate them.
The search ended at approximately 10 a.m. Monday when officials received a report of two deceased individuals found near the Logan River that runs along the highway. Cache County Sheriff Chad Jensen said the bodies were discovered by a group of duck hunters.
Because the bodies were located in an unincorporated area of Cache County—outside Logan city limits—the investigation into the deaths is being handled by the sheriff’ office.
Investigators have not released a specific cause or time of death. The bodies were transferred to the state medical examiner’s office to complete an autopsy and determine the official manner of death.
The Logan Police Department expressed condolences to the community following the identification.
“Our hearts are with the couple’s family and friends during this tragic time of loss,” the department said in a prepared statement.
Authorities are asking anyone with information regarding the couple’s movements on Sunday or Monday to contact the Cache County Sheriff’s Office.
