LOGAN — A 24-year-old Mendon man has been ordered to turn himself into deputies at the Cache County Jail for downloading child pornography over a popular social media app. Dylan Ray Wood was sentenced to serve 6 months’ in jail and placed on the sex-offender registry.
Wood was sentenced Mar. 3 in Logan’s 1st District Court. He previously pleaded guilty to two counts of attempted sexual exploitation of a minor, a third-degree felony.
According to prosecutors, Wood engaged in online conversations on Snapchat with multiple minors. He would request and exchange nude images with them.
The crimes occurred for several months between 2023 and 2024. They continued until he was arrested in September.
During Monday’s sentencing, Wood told the court he accepted the consequences of his actions. He claimed to being in a “very low point in life” when the crimes occurred.
Cache County Deputy Attorney Ronnie Keller said Wood was previously convicted of sex crimes as a juvenile. He also noted how the defendant had created at least 11 accounts to prey on teenage girls.
Wood, who previously waived his right to council and represented himself, asked the court to spare him any jail time, so he could continue being a father to his daughter.
Keller however recommended one year in jail. He told the court, the defendant had shown a repeat cycle of exploiting teenage girls.
Judge Angela Fonnesbeck sentenced Wood to 180 days in jail, and ordered him to turn himself into deputies by March 10. She also prohibited him from having any contact with the victims, and no access to the internet.
