LOGAN — A 46-year-old Logan man has been sentenced to 24 months’ probation for peeping into a woman’s window while she was taking a shower. Jose Atilio Ramos avoided any jail time after his public defender praised him for being a good person.
Ramos was sentenced Mar. 3 in Logan’s 1st District Court. He previously pleaded guilty to voyeurism, a class A misdemeanor; and lewdness, a class B misdemeanor.
According to prosecutors, Logan City Police were called to an apartment complex Aug. 30, on report of a man peeping into a woman’s window. He then opened the window, supposedly to try and get a better view.
The woman told officers she was taking a shower in her bathroom, when she saw the defendant peeking through and opening the window. The man had reportedly pulled his pants down and was inappropriately touching himself.
When police arrived, they made contact with Ramos, who still had his pants down.
Ramos was booked temporarily into the Cache County Jail, before being released on $5,000 bail.
During Monday’s sentencing, public defender Shannon Demler said what Ramos did was inappropriate. However, he explained that it shouldn’t overshadow the good person he is.
Judge Angela Fonnesbeck agreed with Demler and noted the defendant was considered “medium risk” and had no criminal history. She sentenced the defendant to 24 months of probation and undergo a mental health assessment.
