FRANKLIN, Idaho — Funeral services have been announced for the 23-year-old Preston woman killed in a multi-vehicle crash Dec. 12. Monica Marisa Herrera died in the accident on US-91 at Legacy Drive, in Franklin.

A memorial will be held Saturday, Dec. 21, at Webb Funeral Home. Family and friends are raising money for her body to be transported back to her mother and father in Colima, Mexico, for burial.

Aaron Snell with the Idaho State Police said the crash is still being investigated. Upon completion, the case will be turned over to prosecutors, to determine whether or not any charges will be filed.

According to police, a Mazda Tribute, driven by a 77-year-old man from Logan, was northbound on US-91. The driver reportedly stopped in the roadway and began reversing in the lane toward the intersection.

Investigators report that at the same time, a Dodge Ram, driven by a 32-year-old man from Franklin, was southbound on US-91 and was turning left onto Legacy Drive. During the turn, the Dodge truck stopped in the northbound lanes to avoid colliding with the reversing Mazda.

Another Dodge Ram, driven by a 20-year-old man from Franklin, was traveling northbound on US-91. The driver, in an attempt to avoid a collision, swerved into the southbound lanes but still hit the other Dodge truck.

Police said the truck then continued into the turn lane where it collided head-on with a Jeep Renegade that was travelling southbound. The SUV was being driven by Herrera, who despite wearing a seatbelt and lifesaving efforts by paramedics, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Family members said Herrera was a smiling, happy, humble, kind and cheerful girl, who was employed at Schreiber Foods. She studied social work and had a caring heart that was an example to others.

GoFundMe account has been set up by Herrera’s family, to assist them with funeral services and repatriation of her body to Mexico so that her parents and relatives can pay their last respects.
