LOGAN – In preparation for his assumption of the duties of mayor in 2026, businessman Mark Anderson resigned from the Logan Municipal Council on Nov. 17.
That move frees his former colleagues on that panel select his replacement via a “beauty contest” selection process in December.
“I will always cherish my time on the (Logan) City Council with you all,” Anderson wrote to Mayor Holly Daines and the members of the Municipal Council in his brief letter of resignation.
“I feel that we have accomplished many great things,” he added. “We have truly made a difference in our community … I look forward to the opportunity to work with you all again soon in a new role.”
At a meeting to canvass the result of the recent municipal election on Nov. 17, City Recorder Teresa Harris said that the members of the municipal council would move to quickly replace Anderson during the month of December.
City officials plan to accept applications from interim candidates seeking to serve out Anderson’s unexpired term of office — until Jan. 1, 2028 on the city council — through 5 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 5, she explained.
Those interested in being considered for the appointment to fill the vacancy must submit his or her name by completing an application which can be found on the Logan City website at www.loganutah.gov
Applicants must also file a statement of interest and qualifications in person to Harris at Logan City during regular business hours or by email at teresa.harris@loganutah.gov
A notice of the interim appointment to the city council with necessary qualifications can be found on the city’s website at https://www.loganutah.gov/departments/admin/council/Interim%20Notice%202025.pdf?t=20251118105101664
The members of the Logan Municipal Council will then meet Tuesday, Dec. 16 to publicly interview those qualified applicants and select Anderson’s replacement.
The agenda for that meeting, tentatively slated for 6:30 p.m., will begin with three-minute statements by each of the applicants, followed by discussion.
If necessary, the council members will vote to winnow the number of candidates down to two. The council members will then interview the remaining applicants and make their selection.
