Matthew Wade Kolster, 60 years old, died suddenly on March 6, 2024, at home in Smithfield, Utah.  He was born on November 21, 1963, to Jim Henry Kolster and Bernice Adams Kolster at the Air Force Academy outside of Colorado Springs, Colorado, where his father was stationed in the US Army. He leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and perseverance, despite life’s challenges.

Matt has two daughters, Anna Rill and Kylie Kolster, and two granddaughters, Ellie and Maizee, who Matt talked about in nearly every conversation. Despite the distance that separated them, Anna and Kylie will forever carry their father’s love in their hearts. They will remember his wisdom, his guidance, and the lessons he imparted, even as they navigated their own paths in life.

Matt attended school in El Paso, Texas, and moved to Logan, Utah, when his parents moved to the area.  He worked in the manufacturing industry for many years and did some long haul trucking.

Matt loved the outdoors, camping, fishing and 4 wheeling in the open spaces around him. Classic cars were one of his greatest loves and he was a good shade tree mechanic. He always enjoyed gardening, pruning trees, improving outdoor spaces, and overall observing nature.

Matt is survived by his daughters, granddaughters, brother Jim Kolster of New Mexico, sister Francine Medrano (Steve) of Kanab, Utah, and many nieces and nephews.

Matt is preceded in death by his parents, sister Kristine Kolster, brother Robert Kolster, nephews Tom Crenshaw, Billy Rice, Christopher Kolster and Jon Medrano.

Though Matt may no longer be with us in body, his spirit will live on in the memories shared by those who loved him. We, his family and friends, look forward to meeting Matt again.
