Amber Wilde is married to Morgan Wilde who is a rodeo cowboy. They met at Idaho State University and married eight years ago.

“So I met him in the off-season of rodeo in October so he tricked me,” Amber said. “It was fun until you start going to rodeos. But then I was like, ‘Oh wow, every weekend, three a weekend, this is really rough.’ But I was already in love with him by then.”

Amber grew up in Lehi and said she never thought she’d be married to a rodeo cowboy.

“I have one pair of cowboy boots that I don’t even wear,” Amber said. “So to be married to a cowboy and have my two little boys be cowboys – it’s thrown me off a little bit. Now we live in the middle of the country with little cowboys.”

Together they share four children. Their son Shade is 6 – daughter Kenadee was 9 weeks old when she passed away. Their son Rekker is 3 and their daughter Quincee is a newborn.

Amber said it was when they lost Kenadee that she realized just how tight-knit the rodeo community is.

“It’s kind of a family – like they’re always there for us,” Amber said. “Some people, some friends actually, did a rodeo benefit for her.”

She said there were several cowboys who walked away from paying rodeo events to ride in the rodeo in memory of Kenadee.

Amber said that there are so many great things about being the wife of a rodeo cowboy, but she feels like people only see the fun side of it.

“Like I have a lot of friends that are like, ‘Oh I wish I was you. I’d love to get to go to rodeos and travel all the time,’” Amber said. “And it’s fun because our family gets to be together but it’s really hard. Like Morgan works Monday through Thursday and then Thursday nights he comes in the door and leaves for rodeos all weekend. And you know, it’s hard, it’s rough.”

Morgan rides on Saturday at That Famous Preston Night Rodeo and Amber said she’ll be cheering him on to reach his goal of being the best. In the words of their son Rekker, “89 points dad, 89 points.”
