A 49-year-old Davis County man, Paul Howard died Sunday afternoon, after jumping out of a pine tree at Lower Doc Flats camping area, south of Mantua.

In a press release, Box Elder County Sheriff Kevin Potter said deputies were called to the area on report of a man acting intoxicated. Howard was yelling and causing a disturbance for other campers.

When deputies arrived, they located Howard on a mountain side and asked him to come down and speak with them.

Potter said, Howard instead climbed a large pine tree and then intentionally jumped off, falling around 100 feet, causing his death.

The Box Elder Search and Rescue High Angle rope team recovered Howard’s body.

Potter said deputies are unsure what led Howard to take his life.
