A 57-year-old man was injured and later cited with driving under influence after the car he was driving, rolled in Sardine Canyon Wednesday morning.

Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Cade Brenchley said Mark A. Dumas was driving northbound along US-89/91 just before 8:00 a.m. Near the “Big Curve,” the Chevrolet Malibu lost control and drove off the rightside of the road. The vehicle rolled and came to a rest on its top, in a stream.

Dumas was found to be intoxicated and initially refused medical treatment. He was the only one in the vehicle at the time of the accident.

Brenchley said due to the seriousness of the accident, Dumas was taken into custody and transported to Logan Regional Hospital. A brain scan discovered some internal injuries to his head. He was later transferred to McKay Dee Hospital in Ogden.

Troopers reported that roads were slushy at the time of the accident and may have caused Dumas to loose control. They believe alcohol and traveling too fast for the conditions were factors in the accident.

Brenchley said Dumas was cited with a DUI.
